About Us

TRIAD Treatment Center's Staff are pleased to be able to serve our clients and are dedicated to making your experience at TRIAD one that is at once caring, comfortable, courteous, and professional. All medical professionals are duly licensed by the State of California, and are in good standing. We are pleased to introduce you to each of our staff:

Stephen J Groth, MD

Admistrative Director / Medical Director

Dr Stephen Groth is our Executive Director (“The Boss”), as well as our Medical Director. He both runs our clinic and oversees all client care.

He joined TRIAD in June, 2006 to help organize the TRIAD Treatment Center in order to bring the NTR™ System to Southern California, and soon added additional cutting-edge treatment modalities such as Prometa™ and Suboxone™. Dr. Groth is a graduate of the University of Minnesota Medical School (MD ’76), as well as Harvard College (AB ’73). He is board-certified in Emergency Medicine, and for over 14 years was Director of Emergency Services at Anaheim Memorial Medical Center in Anaheim, CA. He is an ASAM member and will soon be certified in Addiction Medicine.

Dr. Groth brings to TRIAD a perspective of recovery, as he is now entering his fourth year of recovery from addiction to opiates, alcohol, benzodiazepines, and “other things”. In his “spare time”, Dr Groth is Publisher, Editor, and CEO of “California Together”, a recovery-oriented newspaper that serves the broad recovery communities of Southern California: www.californiatogether.com.

His concern for making sure that TRIAD’s clients are offered a comprehensive approach to recovery from addiction is what sets our clinic apart from other similar clinics. NTR™, Prometa™, or Suboxone™ in most cases will be only the beginning of recovery from addictions; rehab and psychosocial therapy (AA, NA, etc.) are also critical to ongoing sobriety and recovery. These important elements are introduced and encouraged. Liaison and coordination with drug and alcohol treatment facilities to coordinate continuing care is provided and emphasized, as well.

Elisabeth Humason, PA

Physician Assistant

Elisabeth Humason, MPA, PA-C has provided hands-on patient care at Triad Treatment Center since March. 2006. Her passion for helping those who desire to change their lives for the better brought her to TRIAD.

She obtained her Master of Physician Assistant in 2005 from Samuel Merritt College in Oakland, California, and prior to that she graduated in 2003 with honors and a Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences from the University of California, Irvine.

She did most of her year of clinical training in Southern California clinics and hospitals, including the local Kaiser Permanente system. Elisabeth also works part-time at a non-profit family practice clinic in Santa Ana that serves the needy of Orange County.

As a long time resident of Orange County, she enjoys her free time with family and friends, playing volleyball, or spending an evening at Disneyland or the beach with her husband, Brent.

Elisabeth and her fellow PA, Wen Shaw, perform the actual administration of the NTR™ and Prometa™ Treatments, and therefore spend much time at the bedside with our clients. You will get to know Elisabeth's quiet, cheery smile very well!!

Karen Sandore, RN

Physician Assistant

Karen joined us as a Staff RN in May, 2008 after having worked for many years as a Labor & Delivery nurse in the Chicago, Illinois area, where she and her husband, Richard, an OB-Gyn physician, raised a family that is now grown up and out of the nest. Karen and Richard decided to move to California 4 years ago to pursue new interests- and loved it! Needless to say, just one winter in California after years of dealing with the Midwest winters, and Karen is now a confirmed “neo-Californian.”

In her spare time, Karen enjoys her hobbies which include volunteering with other women struggling with addiction, riding her bike, and walking their 3 dogs. Her other passion is roaming through farmers’ markets and finding various one-of-a-kind treasures.

Karen herself is in recovery, and therefore brings to TRIAD and our clients that most unique and helpful personal perspective - being in recovery. She can relate!! If you ask her why she joined us, she will cheerfully point out, “In order to keep it; you’ve got to give it away!” She will lend you her sympathetic ear, give you words of wisdom and encouragement, and generally will provide you with that special support that only someone who as “been there” can provide. And, she’s an excellent nurse! You will very much enjoy your time with Karen, and you’ll especially love her happy smile and pleasant demeanor. She’s great!!

Barbara Huffer, RN

RN and Office Manager

Barbara is our Registered Nurse (RN) and office manager. She comes to TRIAD with a wealth of nursing experience, both in bedside patient care, as well as in senior nursing management in several major Southern California hospitals. Her passion is in helping others- and it shows. In her spare time, Barb is deeply involved with her church, and enjoys taking care of her many grandchildren.

Lianna J. Dreyfus, MA, MFT

Director, TRIAD Behavioral Services

Lianna joined us in August of 2007 as Director of TRIAD Behavioral Services to establish a full service behavioral services team. She is a graduate of the University of Colorado (M.A. ’95), and has her MFT from Redding University, 2002. She herself is in recovery and has been a member of AA for 19 years.

Lianna has nearly 20 years experience working in non-traditional treatment settings, and has worked with issues such as domestic violence, childhood trauma, community violence, poverty, race issues, challenges in multicultural families and interfaith households. She works with PTSD survivors, rape and incest. She enjoys working with young people, and especially those afflicted with methamphetamine and other “hard-core” addictions.

She is highly invested in education and lifelong-learning and is well-versed in refocusing those who have left their educational path. Her focus is on patient responsibility, attention to family, and peace in the home.

In her spare time, Ms. Dreyfus has a private practice in which she blends essential oils for yoga and meditation. She has studied healing and spirituality in many cultures of the world, and has been both an anthropologist and student of the Native Maya in the Yucatan. She is a cultural storyteller and a practitioner of the healing arts.

Lianna is bi-lingual in both English and Spanish
